Top 10 most expensive empty bottles

Prepare to rustle through your recycling bin, as we reveal what the most expensive empty bottles are currently looking to fetch online.

One man's rubbish...

If it hasn’t gone in the bin, it’s had a cheap candle deface its label with wax or incense sticks arranged in it’s neck never to see a flame.

For most of us, these have been the only conceivable fates for empty bottles and cans after they have been emptied of their more precious cargo — until now.

Take a look at these eye-watering empties and see just how much one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure…

10. Stag’s Leap Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 6L – US$280 (£164)

Empty2This mint condition bottle is fetching top dollar based on the fact that it has never had any wine in it – a strange concept for we wine lovers – but bottle collectors will go wild for this promotional piece that is untainted with that superfluous stuff that bottles usually come with.

9. Michelob Test Foil Beer Can – US$325 (£190)

Empty3This 1970 beer can from brewers Anheuser Busch was made in the U.S.A, and with its contents having been drained from the bottom to keep intact its vintage pull-tab opening.

7. Patron Silver Tequila 15L – US$425 (£250)

Standing 17.5 inches tall, this beast of a bottle has been untainted by any fanciful spirit. And, judging by the fact that the mantle of most expensive empty bottle ever sold belongs to a tequila bottle at $225,000, this one is certainly a snap. The buyer does specify, however, that the two smaller bottles aren’t included.

6. Courvoisier Cognac 1 Gallon – US$500 (£293)

Empty6

The seller of this impressive Cognac bottle is open about their expertise (or lack thereof), saying that they have no idea what it is worth. So at $500, a collector could have that chance to make the bargain of their life, or throw away the equivalent of a long-haul flight.

5. Johnnie Walker Red Scotch 4.5L – US$550 (£322)

Empty7

Described as being in excellent condition and accompanied by a flashy stand, this vintage Johnnie bottle stands at an impressive 18.5 inches – the perfect adornment to any whisky cabinet.

4. Baccarat 2000 Camus Cognac Crystal Decanter – US$750 (£440)

3. Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne 15L – US$900 (£528)

With great size comes a great price. 30 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and the weight of three newborn babies, this classic bottle will certain attract attention.

2. Armand de Brignas Ace of Spades 15L Nebuchadnezzar Champagne – US$7,500 (£4,400)

Wow – that escalated quickly. This sparkly sparkling bottle is a collectors favourite, fetching several thousand pounds a pop thanks to its rock-star image and renowned celebrity credentials. So good, it deserves a seatbelt.

And finally, the pièce de résistance. Made from baccarat crystal, this rare Cognac bottle is safely displayed in its original cushion-lined container. The temptation to shine it every day would be unbearable to any well-respected bottle enthusiast – the likes of which this bottle certainly deserves. Just make sure you don’t have one lying around the house currently doubling up as a detergent bottle.
