Indonesian rum pop-up launches in Hong Kong

Indonesian rum brand Nusa Caña will celebrate the launch of its premium Godfather rum with a one month-long pop-up at the award-winning Quinary bar in Hong Kong.

Dedicated to reviving the rum-making tradition in Indonesia, Nusa Caña aims to showcase quality rum made from Asia to the rest of the world.

Its latest release, Godfather boasts 60% ABV and is a traditional pot-stilled Batavia Arrack style, tropically aged for 24 months in teak wood barrels.

According to the brand’s tasting notes, it has tropical fruits, molasses funk, pepper and subtle heat; while the finish is long, with vibrant fresh young cane, fragrant grass, dry spice and soft tropical fruit.

The brand has also released two further rums designed for using in cocktails; Nusa Caña Tropical Island rum and Spiced Island rum.

The Tropical Island Rum draws on flavour profiles from its unique fermentation of molasses and red rice, distillation in rustic steel pot stills, and maturation in teak wood barrels. This Indonesian rum is then artfully blended with aged column-still light rum to produce a flavour-packed and versatile rum style.

Nusa Caña Spiced Island rum draws on the heritage of the Spice Islands of Indonesia.

In August, the brand will join hands with Quinary, which has consistently been listed as one of the World’s 50 Best Bars, to run a month-long pop-up.

Antonio Lai, executive mixologist of Tastings Group, has designed the Nu Wave Mojito as a limited-edition Nusa Caña offering with only a limited quantity served daily.

The refreshing tipple is presented in an Indonesia-inspired woven basket, combining a mix of re-distilled Nusa Caña Tropical Island rum with airwaves chewing gum for a sinus clearing mint flavour, softened and complimented with natural sugar and citric acid from Yuzu, before being shaken and carbonated.

A blend of passionfruit purée and housemade jasmine tea syrup, the Jungle Daiquiri uses the brand’s Tropical Island Rum with a touch of Mezcal. Despite the mix of the two liquors, this drink does not have a strong alcoholic bite, but rather stays fruity and mellow.

Finally, Java Tea Punch gathers the tropical essence of pineapple, mango and lemon, enhanced with Spiced Island Rum and Tropical Island Rum, with the addition of Genmaicha tea syrup, finished with a dash of grapefruit bitters.

The limited release Godfather rum with only 1000 bottles made for global release and 60 bottles available in Hong Kong, will be showcased throughout the event, with a tasting experience and a bottle up for grabs as a prize and giveaway.
