Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte releases a Japanese exclusive limited edition

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte has created a refreshing new look for its Blanc de Blanc brut this autumn, inspired by the famous artist Hokusai and which will be available exclusively in Japan.

The bottle’s design was inspired by the art of Japanese printmaker and ukiyo-e painter Hokusai (1760-1849), whose most famous work is the 1829-33 print, ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’.

This traditional Japanese art and aesthetic in turn later spawned an art movement in the west called Japonisme’.

In homage to the 260th anniversary of Hokusai’s birth this year, Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte has released a limited edition bottle design inspired by Hokusai’s masterpiece for the house’s Blanc de Blanc brut.

According to chief winemaker Guillaume Roffiaen, the Champagne, with a crisp mouthfeel and distinctive grapefruit and yuzu scent, is an excellent pairing with Japanese cuisine; from delicate kaiseki cuisine at the restaurant, to tofu and white fish-based sashimi dishes at home.

This is not the first time for the Champagne house to release a special bottle design exclusively in Japan. Last year, it created a packaging design inspired by cherry blossom, the national flower of the country, for the house’s Réserve Exclusive Brut Rosé.

As data from the Comité Champagne shows, Japan is currently the third biggest Champagne export market by volume behind the UK and the US. In 2019, the market accounted for 14,303,643 bottles.

Established in 1976, Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte claims to be the biggest selling Champagne brand in France, third in the world and fourth in the US.
