Jason Atherton to open Harrods Social in Knightsbridge

Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton is to open Harrods Social within the luxury department store in Knightsbridge when indoor dining begins again on 17 May.

Marking Atherton’s first department store opening, Harrods Social will focus on modern British cuisine “in a relaxed yet elegant setting”.

The 114-seat restaurant (seating 60 under Covid restrictions) will showcase local seasonal produce, from Cumbrian beef, lamb and chicken, and Devon crab to South Coast halibut to support local industries and celebrate British provenance.

The restaurant will also serve an extensive wine selection, cocktails from The Blind Pig and speciality coffees.

Among the desserts on the debut menu will be Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée, Valrhona chocolate tart, and olive oil sponge with Amalfi lemon curd, nougatine and yoghurt sorbet.

Located on the lower ground floor, the interiors incorporate “intricately detailed marble cornerstones, atmospheric illuminated brass signage and textured leather upholstery”.

“Harrods is the most iconic department store in the world. Its famous Food Halls stock an incredible array of the very best produce from the British Isles, alongside one of the greatest wine shops in the world. We have shopped here for many years as a family, and to work alongside the amazing team at Harrods is so special,” Atherton said.

“To bring The Social Company dining philosophy to this renowned location is a dream. At the forefront of the partnership has been creating a menu that complements the shopping experience at Harrods and crafting a dining experience that matches the very best London has to offer,” he added.

Ashley Saxton, head of restaurants for Harrods said: “After a tough year for the British restaurant industry, Harrods is proud to be standing alongside some of the brightest and best in our national culinary scene, and we are delighted to be welcoming a chef of Jason’s calibre to Harrods.

“Following the launch of Gordon Ramsay Burger, now Jason Atherton, and with more exciting faces to come, this is the next stage in our vision to bring iconic British chefs to this iconic British destination.”
