Lubanzi vegan wines launch in Hong Kong

Sustainably focused Lubanzi Wines from Cape Town has launched its vegan-certified labels to the Hong Kong market.

Officially launched on the Asian wines and spirits platform Barlove, this spring, South African winery Lubanzi Wines presents its three vegan wines – a Chenin Blanc, Red Blend and rosé bubbles to Hong Kong customers.

With fermentations by natural yeasts, their Chenin Blanc offers a “lively pale yellow-green colour and wonderfully aromatic nose with hints of green melon, passion fruit, lemon zest and green apple”. The wine is rich in mineral taste, presenting the genuine flavour of Swartland along the coast of South Africa.

The Red Blend is a Rhône style blend with a contemporary panache. Comprising four separate vineyards along the South Africa’s coastal region, including Shiraz, Cinsault, Mourvedre and Grenache, the blend is “refreshing with a slight presence of tannins, the ruby-coloured Red Blend brims with unlimited vibrancy and fruity notes, increasing the complexity of the wine’s flavour and taste”.

Made in small batches, the Rosé Bubbles is made by different varietal harvests: “Light, crisp & refreshing, there is minerality and balanced acidity on the palate, with notes of wild cherries & ripe summer strawberries”, as the brand’s tasting notes suggested.

Founded by two young travellers in Cape Town, Lubanzi pays much emphasis on the natural winemaking process such as minimal intervention, natural fermentation and adopting genuine fair trade practices. The wines are produced in Swartland, the hub of progressive wine production in South Africa, and are free of any animal products and by-products. This ensures wines produced are of spectacular quality whilst remaining fully vegan-friendly.

Besides, sustainability is what the winery values as well. They only with farms that are integrity ans sustainability certified and commits to reducing carbon emissions in the production process; also the bottle labels are made entirely from recycled sugar cane pulp, thereby contributing to the protection of the Earth.

Additionally, the Chenin Blanc and Red Blend have obtained Fair For Life Fair Trade Certified to ensure that human rights are safeguarded at every stage of production.

Workers enjoy good and fair working conditions, and smallholder farmers receive a fair share, proactively fulfilling the need for social responsibility.

The winery has pledged 50% of net profits to be put back into the community to support local workers and families in need by participating in the Pebbles Project, a non-profit oraganisation that works with low-income families who live and work on South Africa’s wine farms.

Lubanzi’s Chenin Blanc, Red Blend and Rosé Bubbles are now available in Hong Kong at Barlove, priced at HK$135 (750ml bottle) and HK$45 (250ml can).
