Awards / The Global Wine Masters

The Global Masters is a series of blind tasting competitions, drawing in entries from across the world. One of the key elements to its success is the quality and the dedication of the judges involved.

Every wine is measured on the taste of its grape and the skill of its winemaker. For the first time all preconceived ideas about the importance of location are pushed to one side as wines from across the world are judged by style and price exclusively.

All Global Masters are judged blind by the finest palates in the world – a panel of Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and senior buyers only. The best competing wines are awarded medals from Bronze through to Gold, and ultimately “Master” for exceptional examples.

The calibre of the judges guarantees international recognition of all the medals awarded.

The Global Masters marks a distinct change in the way wine is judged. For the first time, preconceived notions of the importance of location are pushed aside, allowing wines from across the globe to be judged purely on style and price.
Each tasting identifies the best examples of its grape variety, from all around the world and from every price bracket, meaning a Bulgarian wine can be tasted alongside a Burgundian without prejudice or bias.

All Masters competition – whether regional or global – are judged blind, and we have been honoured to have some of the finest palates in the world acting as judges: our panels comprise solely of Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and senior buyers.

Only the best competing wines are awarded medals, ranging from Bronze through to Gold and, for exceptional example, the title of Master. The calibre of our judges alone guarantees international recognition to all the medals awarded. We hope you appreciate the integrity of the selection process and, as importantly, enjoy the quality of the wines available.

Year on year, the success of our Masters series has grown – with hundreds of wines vying to become the Master in their category.
Both The Global and Regional Masters have resulted in some wonderful wines being recognised, and the popularity of the competitions is proof of their value in the market place.

Although The Global Masters was only launched in 2013, the tasting competition, encompassing styles from rosé to sparkling, and varieties such as Chardonnay and Syrah, has become the biggest awards programme by the drinks business, the world’s leading magazine for the wine and spirits trade.
