Everyone is adding jalapeños to their rosé – here’s why

It’s hot, it’s (kind of) sunny and thus, inevitably, we’re all reaching for the rosé to help see us through those long hazy days of summer. But if this all sounds somewhat familiar to you then hold your horses, because it turns out the entire internet is adding jalapeños to their pink plonk. Here’s why.

As it happens, people have actually been adding sliced jalapeños to their rosé for some time already.

In any case, it seems that TikTok user allyssainthekitchen has well and truly revived the trend after she posted a recent video of her adding jalapeños to her glass (or more accurately, flask).

And if the reaction in her comments section is anything to go by, the internet is fully on board.

“I finally tried The Pale rose w/ jalapeño & it was the BEST poolside drink!! [sic]” One commenter wrote, while a second added, “Spicy rosè = Summer 2022”.

“I will be grabbing a jalapeño tomorrow at the grocery store for my rose” a third commenter wrote, while another revealed that it was “The only way I drink rose.”

And indeed, in a sweeter rosé, adding sliced jalapeño may result in some greener, crunchier notes and peppery spice which could make the wine more refreshing and prove desirable. However, in a drier style of rosé sliced jalapeño may risk overpowering the flavours in the wine.
